Logos Open Culture at Feminart Arts and Book Festival 2019 this weekend

Logos Open Culture will be at the first Feminart Arts and Book Festival 2019 in Lilongwe this weekend.

Feminart has been set up to celebrate ‘feminism’ and ‘femininity’, according to the festival organisers The Story Club. It’s happening this weekend on 23-24 November around Lilongwe. Venues for Feminart include Crossroads Hotel, Madsoc Theatre and the Storyclub Arts Cafe.

Feminart is creating a space to explore the theme ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’ this year. What does this mean? The organisers write, ‘In the context of feminism, femininity and gender, what does it mean to be happy? How do we create a happy environment for all? What are the challenges to this pursuit of happiness?’

We are really excited about the the line up for this literary festival. Tsitsi Dangarembga will headline the festival. You can also expect to see Zukiswa Wanner, Lily Banda, Asante Ntenje, Elizabeth Chilufya Chilangwa, George Kalukusha, Niq Mhlongo, James Murua, Cindy Chilimampunga, and Phindu Zaie Banda.

As part of Feminart, Chitenje Changa Monologues will take the stage at Crossroads Hotel, Lilongwe on Saturday 23 November from 6.15pm.

We will be at the festival to sell books and share with festival goers about our forthcoming publication Lomathinda: Rose Chibambo Speaks. As we announced earlier this week,

In the forthcoming publication, Lomathinda: Rose Chibambo Speaks published by Logos Open Culture in December 2019, Chibambo shares her life story, from surviving a difficult birth to forging a women’s movement.

In a series of intimate conversations with Malawian scholar Timwa Lipenga, Chibambo traces the origins of her family, her culture, her commitment to building a post-colonial nation—and the heavy price she paid for it.
